Rome Part I

Hi everyone, this the 1st post and the 1st place im going to talk about is Rome, Italy.
Its a romantic place(well being Italy), and its a city that dwells in between the ancients
and the new. Im just gonna talk about the few places of interest of Rome itself.
Its all done in a day.

Rome is about 12-13 hours flight away from Singapore,
Euros is the currency, train, or more likely known as subway,MRT
is the standard mode of transport.
Cabbing is not a good idea as the traffic is rather congested, and italians are not majority english speaking.

Food are well, Pastas and Pizza!

small things to take note, do not ask for change of pasta for some dishes..
ie. cabonara, it is meant to eat with spaghetti and they WILL NOT change the pasta type for you.
they rather you order another dish rather. its just the way they eat, and the best pasta for the style. well if you travel there, experience it yourself.!

Some Pizza DO have raw veg and meat(mostly salami) on it, unlike in asia.
bread service is everywhere, and you DO NOT pay extra for it. mostly is foccacia or pita bread, if not its baguette.

A standard meal with drink will cost about 10-15 euros.
Do not be surprised if wine is cheaper than soft drinks.!
Europe is a country with tipping culture. tip as you think it would be worth. rule of thumb is 5-10percent of the total bill.

DO BEWARE
- locals that dress up as the ancient roman soldiers, u need to pay them to take picture.
- Pickpockets and robbers
- local touts

The Colosseum

Well we all know, its a stadium.. and this is the place where Gladiators fights
Gladiators are slaves that fight for entertainment to the royalties way back in the ancient

Moving on, down the street from the Colosseum,
you will pass by the museum!
I dint go in as it was renovation in progress.

With some navigation on the map, you shld be able to reach the next place in within 5-10 mins.

Pantheon

Pantheon is a Greek word, literally translates to *Every God*
It is the world's largest unreinforced dome still to this day.

there is a hole at the top of the dome, where this is the ONLY PLACE where light will stream in. and of cos, it will allow rain too. there is no drainage system, so the rain will fall onto the floor of the building.

Going onwards, we find place full of people,

Trevi's Fountain,

This is a wishing fountain, well the largest fountain in the city.
A traditional belief is that, if one is to throw a coin into the fountain,
one is ensured a revisit back in rome!

a person that throw 2 coins is for romance,
3 coins is for either a marriage or divorce.
and it is lucky if you throw a coin using your right hand over your left shoulder!
estimated to be 3000euros thrown in daily, and the money is used for the needy! how sweet!

The Spanish Steps

138 steps, and it makes the longest and widest staircase in the whole of Europe!
but i dint climb it, too late, and too tired.
